Mizen to Malin - an Aussie’s jog through Ireland
Simon Chodziesner is an Aussie. He has travelled to Ireland twice a year for the past 5 years since meeting his wife, Martina McConigley from Fanad in North Donegal.
An avid runner for the past 20 years, in August 2015 Simon will embark on his biggest running challenge yet - to run from Mizen Head to Malin Head, from the most southerly tip of Ireland as far north as you can go – 569km in 18 days!
“Why” you may ask -. “Why not?” Simon says!
Simon has a 20 year love of running and in that time has completed 14 marathons, an ultra-marathon (65km) and a Half Ironman triathlon. Simon's marathon running has taken him across the globe from Australia to Europe. He competed in Paris in 2013 and even ran the Donegal Marathon in Letterkenny in 2014.
Charity begins at home
Simon’s biggest drive is his next big challenge and his passion for using his running to raise funds for charity. Through the Mizen to Malin challenge, Simon hopes to raise money for two charities close to his heart:
Friends of Letterkenny General Hospital - the local hospital where Simon's Donegal family have been well cared for over the years [http://www.friendsoflgh.ie]; their current project is the Friends of LGH Onconolgy Bus.

Running - 90% mental and the other half physical!
Training for this event started off in earnest 4 months ago on the back of completing the Great Ocean Road Marathon in early April. Simon has run between 100km and 150km a week, most of which is done in the wee hours of the morning before the rest of world (including his young son, Liam) is awake. Simon trains with the Run Like Crazy training group in Melbourne. The group's founder, Tristan Miller, famously completed 52 marathons in 52 weeks across 42 countries – and you thought Simon was crazy! (Check out www.runlikecrazy.com
The Mizen to Malin route will see Simon run a fairly direct route up through the country, covering 11 counties in 18 days.
Any runners who fancy joining in for a few miles to lighten the load would be more than welcome (and the company very much appreciated)! We look forward to any support along the route.
But for those of you who are exhausted even at the thought of such a challenge, you can follow
Simon's journey on Facebook .

If Simon survives those 18 days, he aims to cap it off by running the Donegal Marathon in Letterkenny on 23rd August! [http://www.donegalmarathon.ie]
