In September 2017 I found a lump in my breast and within two weeks I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. At 32 years old and with no family history it was a huge shock. I've been on a crazy journey since then with many ups and downs. From the very beginning I've had a positive outlook and look on this as another chapter in my life.
Cancer will certainly shape who I am as a person, but it won't define me.....there's a lot more to me than a wee pain in the tit!
I started chemo in November 2017 - once every two weeks for eight weeks, followed by once a week for twelve weeks. Hopefully I'll finish chemo at the beginning of April and then I'll start discussions with my consultants about an operation and possibly radiation.
At every step of this journey I've been supported by an amazing bunch of people - my partner, parents, family and friends. I've learned a lot about myself over the past few months.....I'm more optimistic and resilient than I ever imagined......and underneath all the curls I actually have quite a small head!
I'm raising money for....
Breast Cancer Ireland
- My prognosis is a positive one, due to early detection and huge advances in breast cancer research. For those reasons I'm raising money for Breast Cancer Ireland a charity dedicated to research and raising awareness to make breast cancer a treatable illness.
Arc Cancer Support Centre
- Located across from the Mater Hospital the team in Arc are always on hand with a hot cuppa and reassuring words. They provide wonderful services to patients & their families, including counselling, pilates and reflexology which I've really benefited from over the last few months. Funding helps the team provide these services are free of charge which is why I've chosen this charity.
All donations are massively appreciated!
