My name is Niamh and I am organising this 5K with a lot of help from friends!! My sister Teenagh passed away on the 21st of August 2015, exactly four weeks to the day that she was diagnosed with Oesopageal Cancer. She was only 56 when she died and her death left us all shocked,as you can imagine. We are raising funds for two very special causes and any money raised will be divided equally between them. More details below.
Teenagh was a beautiful, funny, warm hearted woman who would do anything she could to help anyone. She had parents, four siblings and nine nieces and nephews whom she loved with all her heart. The day we lost her was the worst day of our lives, but we hope that by having this Run/Walk/Crawl in her memory we will celebrate her life and raise some funds for two worthy causes.
So from myself Niamh, and all my family, I thank you in advance for all your donations and I leave you with one of Teenaghs sayings, one she used when collecting money PONY UP PLEASE!!!
Here's a little bit about the two causes, for more information please see the Charity Info.
Baboro International Arts Festival for Children: This was the great love in my sister's life!! She absolutely loved her work and firmly believed that the Arts should be available for all children. We have attended many shows with our daughter and the wondrous look on childrens' faces is truly magical.
The OCF: This is a Registered Charity established in 2001 to raise awareness of the symptoms of Oesophageal Cancer and to provide funding for research. An early diagnosis of this disease is crucial, unfortunately Teenagh was diagnosed too late, but hopefully through raising awareness we can help others and stop other families going through the pain we did.
Entry fee is €20, and thanks to the lovely people at The Galway Oyster Festival this also gives you FREE entry to the Galway Oyster Festival 'Family fun Day' that day!!!
