Crohn's and Colitis Ireland

Crohn's and Colitis Ireland, is Ireland’s leading charity in the battle against Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

We work to make life better for the 40,000+ people in Ireland with Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and other forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). We provide a range of information and support services, raise awareness of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis through our awareness campaigns, and by working in close partnership with healthcare professionals.

Crohn’s and Colitis Ireland brings together people of all ages who have been diagnosed with IBD, their families and the health professionals involved in their care.

We welcome support from anyone who would like to help us in our work, whether as a member, volunteer or by raising funds.

Our Mission is "To improve the quality of life and well-being of those living with and impacted by IBD", through sensitive support services, including advocacy, the provision of information, training and events.

What we do:

  • Peer Support
  • Patient Helpline
  • Awareness campaigns
  • Events
  • Reliable information and advice
  • Advocacy

where your money goes

The information, advice, and services we provide are only made possible because of the fundraising activity of our members, fundraisers and donors. It is important to have a strong patient support group so that we are here to give the support needed by people who are living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Ireland when they need it most. It is also vitally important to give a strong voice to everyone with IBD when it comes to lobbying for improved services or raising awareness of these conditions. This is only possible with the help of the fundraising activities which supplement our membership subscription income and sponsorship.

history

Crohn's and Colitis Ireland was founded in 1984 when a group of healthcare professionals and patients came together because they saw a need to establish a society with the aim of providing support to those living with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and to raise awareness. The first meeting of Crohn' & Colitis Ireland was held in St James's Hospital in Dublin. We have moved around several times until we found a permanent home in the Carmichael Centre in the early 1990s. As well as patient support we have a history of lobbying on behalf of people who are living with IBD. For this to be effective we need a strong membership. We therefore encourage everyone with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis to become a member. Membership applications are also very welcome from family and friends of people living with IBD, as well as healthcare professionals. We are a not-for-profit organisation which is incorporated as a company limited by guarantee (Company Number 258516) and a registered charity (Charity Number CHY8088).
