3Ts is a suicide prevention charity raising awareness of suicide & mental health issues, funding research and providing support & information for those in crisis or in need of support. Funds raised help lower suicide rates through 3Ts funded research, education & support. Reg charity No 20054878, Revenue Charity No 15710.
3Ts receives no government funding but relies on private donations, fundraisers and charity partnerships. The charity website is a valuable source of information on support services for those in crisis, plus provides has a wide range of resources including video & self-help booklet elibraries on suicide and a broad range of mental health issues. The charity delivers suicide prevention training free of charge to interested groups & organisations and also commissions innovative research. 3Ts lobbies Government to improve mental health and suicide services and resources, for 24/7 mental health crisis centres and for a Suicide Prevention Authority.
Founded in 2003 by psychiatrist Prof Kevin Malone (MD, FRCPI, FRCPsych) of SVUH & UCD, together with businessman Noel Smyth & Mater Foundation Fundraiser Joe MacAvin. Since its foundation, 3Ts has invested in excess of €2 million in:
- Research
- Collaborations & Partnerships in Mental Health & Suicide Prevention initiatives
- Providing Funding Support for other Mental Health & Suicide Prevention Groups & Organisations
In addition, 3Ts has raised awareness of the need for a adequately resourced statutory services for suicide prevention, calling on Government to establish a Suicide Prevention Authority along similar lines to the Road Safety Authority.
