I've chosen to fundraise for Children's Health Foundation Temple Street . All funds raised here will go directly to this great cause. Everyone who donates will be in with a chance to win one of two Purebred Friesian Heifer Calves which will be raffled on the 29th of June at the IHFA Pure Friesian open day taking placing on our Dairy Farm in Killuragh, Cappamore, Co. Limerick. The winners of each of these prizes can also choose to accept a cash prize to value of each calf (€800 euro each). If winner does not have a herd number they automatically win cash prize. Please include name to be included in raffle.
We’ve chosen to raise funds for Temple Street after our own personal experience. Our daughter Sally Kate was born in March 2019 in perfect health. Two weeks later she suddenly became very ill. We took her to Limerick Regional Hospital and from there she was immediately rushed to Temple Street by ambulance. She was diagnosed with Group B Strep and Meningitis.
We spent two weeks in ICU, and then three additional weeks in St Michaels B Ward in Temple Street. These times were very uncertain and there were many days when we didn’t think we would be bringing Sally Kate home. However, as a result of the amazing care of nurses, doctors and all the other health professionals Sally Kate did come home and now she is a happy, healthy four year old, who loves preschool, playing with all her friends and helping us look after her new baby sister.
We could not have gotten through those weeks in Temple Street without the constant support of the doctors, nurses, physios and counsellors. Everyone played their part, particularly in ICU the around the clock care received by Sally Kate was unbelievable. As well as their expert medical care they also decorated Sally Kate’s cot with fairy lights, made her a butterfly name tag, played her music, took photos of us and helped us do prints of her hands and toes so that we would have all these little memories, at a time when her future was very uncertain.
When we were finally leaving ICU and going to the ward, we actually didn’t want to leave, which sounds so strange, but the nurses were looking after us as much as Sally Kate. The care in St Michaels B Ward was just as amazing, it’s something we will never forget! t is something you could not even imagine unless you experienced it, I don’t think any of our words will accurately describe how amazing they were.
We want to raise funds to make sure other families in our situation continue to receive such amazing care and as a thank you from our family for that care!! It’s such a tough job and we only had to live through it once and it’s the hardiest thing to look back on that time. The staff in temple street are breaking the worst news every day and supporting families through it. We can’t imagine how difficult this is and our hope is that these funds will help support them in a small way!
