The Official Launch was on the 30th of January in Gibbons Pillar House, Ballinasloe at 7:30pm and was a complete success.
I’m organising this event to Promote equality and awareness for children with Special needs and to highlight the non-existence of services available and also to emphasize the fact that Children with Special needs are treated like second class citizens in this country.
This Government continue to discriminate against Children with Special Needs… why do they think it is ok to treat these children as second class citizens…
All Children in Ireland should be treated as equals… Every child in Ireland should be given the same opportunities and no child in Ireland should have to fight for the Right to basic services that will help benefit them and improve their wellbeing.
This journey is symbolic of the struggle all parents with children with Special needs face.
In 2011 at 8 months old our Little Girl Emma was diagnosed with a very rare metabolic disorder called Succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase deficiency (ssadhd) which is a disorder that can cause a variety of neurological problems. Children with this condition typically have developmental delay, especially involving speech development; intellectual disability; poor fine motor and gross motor skills and decreased muscle tone (hypotonia). About half of those affected experience seizures, difficulty coordinating movements (ataxia), decreased reflexes (hyporeflexia), and behavioral problems.
Approximately 450 people with succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase deficiency have been reported worldwide, that’s how rare Emma’s condition is but there are a whole lot more children out there with similar conditions and they all need as much help as possible to have at least a fighting chance in this world…
Like previous large scale events I’ve organised in the past this sort of event is structured where people can join us or leave us at any stage and like always will be based on donations with all monies raised going to the Metabolic unit in Temple Street children’s hospital.
