  • Liskennett Equine Therapy Centre is a development by St. Joseph’s Foundation for children and adults with Autism. It was officially opened in September 2015. It incorporates therapeutic day and residential services for adults and a “Horse Boy” Equine Therapy Centre for both children and adults. The day service provides a service to 24 service users. The residential service is home to 14 residents.

The multidisciplinary team comprises of an Honorary Medical Officer, Community Nurses, Social Workers, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech & Language Therapists and Music Therapist.

The Foundation has always had tremendous support for its various fundraising events within the catchment area. However, due to H.S.E. cut backs, the services are now more dependent on voluntary fundraising than ever. In this respect, funding for additional respite care for children is a major priority. This is an area which has been adversely affected by funding cuts which is of great concern. Respite care is hugely important and therefore any funds raised for this purpose would be of great benefit to the children and their families. Fundraising enables the Foundation to ensure the continuation and enhancement of services being provided. The Foundation is a registered charity (Charitable Status Number chy7416)

Charleville & District Association for the Handicapped (now St. Joseph's Foundation) was formed in 1968. It was apparent in the area that many children with learning disabilities were not attending school and had no immediate prospect of doing so. A committee was formed to respond to this need and a day school service was established in Charleville in April 1969.
Gradually over the years a pre-school was developed and it quickly became apparent also that a lot of adults with learning disabilities were not availing of a service and St. Joseph's Sheltered Workshop was established in July 1973. Under its motto "To Care" the Foundation continues to grow and to respond to the needs of people with learning disabilities, both children and adults.
