Online Charity & Non Profit Fundraising Services

Mission

Our mission is to use the power of transformative education through learning, leadership and enterprise to end the injustice of poverty wherever we find it.

Organisation Overview

An Cosán offers a variety of programmes in early years education and care, after school education and parenting support with speech and language and child therapy support also. In our adult community education centre basic, further and higher education programmes are offered with academic mentoring, counselling and coaching support for learners. Since 1986 over 19,500 adults and children have availed of our services.

An Cosán has evolved from a local and regional organisation to a national social enterprise in community education, with a continuum of methodologies from face to face to blended online education, empowering individuals reach their lifelong learning potential, access employment and exit poverty.

An Cosán is a lifelong learning initiative offering adult community and early years education to people on low incomes who could not otherwise avail of educational opportunities. An Cosán offers a supportive and holistic environment, rooted in the philosophy that “Education is the key to eradicating poverty and social injustice”.

An Cosán, a unique social enterprise, is rooted in the extraordinary dream of two visionary women, Dr  Ann Louise Gilligan and Dr  Katherine Zappone who, in 1986, created a community–based project in Tallaght West to support the local community, through learning, leadership and enterprise.  This local project has now become a national social enterprise serving similar communities who struggle with inequality and the injustice of poverty across Ireland.

Early childhood is the stage where education can most effectively influence the development of children and help reverse disadvantage.  An Cosán supports children and their families by:

- Offering a high-quality curriculum – HighScope

- Home Visiting Child Developmental Programme

- Engaging with Tusla and Meitheal

For Adults starting back to education An Cosán offers basic, further and higher education programmes with wrap around supports:
