Tallaght University Hospital

Tallaght Hospital is one of the main teaching hospitals of the University of Dublin Trinity College specialising in the training and professional development of staff in nursing, emergency medicine and surgery, amongst many others. Tallaght Hospital is part of the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group which serves a population of over 1.2 million across seven counties. Uniquely it is also part of the Children's Hospital Group and a new satellite centre is to be built on the hospital campus as part of the new children's hospital project.

overview

Tallaght Hospital, Incorporating the National Children's Hospital, is one of Ireland's largest acute teaching Hospitals, providing child-health, adult, psychiatric and age-related healthcare on one site. The Voluntary Hospital has 625 beds and employs almost 3,000 staff. The Hospital is a provider of local, regional and national specialities. It is also a national urology centre, the second largest provider of dialysis services in the country and a regional orthopaedic trauma centre. It is also the national leader in the provision of acute Stroke Care providing a tertiary stroke service to the people of south west Dublin and also the wider Dublin / Leinster area accepting referrals and providing out of hours telemedicine cover.

Tallaght Hospital serves the catchment area of Tallaght, Clondalkin, Firhouse, Rathfarnham, Terenure, Templeogue, West Wicklow and parts of Kildare. The most recent census revealed that 28% of the population of the state reside within this network area. As the population has grown so have the services and Tallaght Hospital is now one of the busiest in the country with the highest OPD attendances and the highest Emergency Department attendances spread across two separate departments for adults and children combined.
