Look Good Feel Better Ireland

At Look Good Feel Better we support women, men and teenagers undergoing cancer treatment. We aim to improve their well being and confidence by providing free,non-medical, brand-neutral workshops and share advice on how to manage the appearance related side effects caused by cancer and its treatment.

overview

In person and virtual workshops take place with over 1100 women, men and teenagers experiencing visible side effects form cancer treatment in Ireland each year.  These workshops are facilitated
by professional beauty and hair volunteers and give some tips and techniques to the ladies in a relaxed and fun environment. This allows the people who participate to leave their illness aside for a short time and relax in the company of other people experiencing similar challenges. The nurses from the oncology wards and the nurses from the Irish Cancer Society Daffodil center support the programme and invite the participants to attend workshops.

where your money goes

We receive minimal government funding, we do receive donations from some cosmetic companies and product for the workshops, but we have to fund raise to keep the day to day business going. We raise money for new hospital workshops, recruiting new volunteers, printing and much much more.

history

The Charity started in the USA in 1986 when a oncology surgeon enlisted the help of beauty professionals to support women during their cancer treatment. Patients cope bravely with the physical  side of chemotherapy and radiation but lose some of their identity and self-esteem with the changes in their appearance. Dedicated professional beauty volunteers facilitate workshops in the hospitals with products donated by the cosmetic industry. The program is now in 27 countries worldwide.
