Marie Keating Foundation

Following their mother Marie’s death from breast cancer in 1998, the Keating family promised to provide the people of Ireland with the vital information, advice and support to prevent cancer or detect it at its earliest stages. The Marie Keating Foundation was established in her memory and with this central ambition in mind. The Foundation's mission is to make cancer less frightening by enlightening and their vision is to live in a world free from the fear of cancer.

overview

Over the last 24 years, the Marie Keating Foundation has grown to become one of the leading voices in cancer prevention, early detection, support and survivorship in Ireland. They provide services at every step of a cancer journey to both men and women and provide information on all the common cancers.

Their caring and compassionate team of nurses, who are based regionally, are at the heart of everything they do. Their nurses work in communities across Ireland providing free lifesaving information and education on cancer prevention and early detection to secondary school, students,  community groups and to underserved or marginalised communities. This service allows anyone with a query or concern to speak in private to a specialist nurse in a non-clinical setting and take away practical information, booklets and leaflets across all the common cancers.

Outside of their community work the Foundation also provides a Comfort Fund, which gives anyone struggling financially as a result of a cancer diagnosis a once-off grant to help alleviate a moment of extreme financial pressure. Their range of support services help both men and women who have come out the other side of treatment and who are adjusting to life after a cancer journey, or men and women who are living with an advanced cancer diagnosis to live well with cancer.

where your money goes

97.3% of the Marie Keating Foundation’s free cancer services are funded directly from donations from the public, fundraising events and from corporate partnerships. As such we rely on the public to help us continue to be there for cancer patients, survivors and their families , at every step.

The Marie Keating Foundation is proud to hold the Triple Lock of Good Governance which is the gold standard in charity governance. We take the trust of our donors very seriously and as such all of our annual reports and accounts are published every year and available on our website. 56% of donations are spent on our cancer information, education and awareness work, 30% on our community and mobile outreach service and 14% on our cancer support and survivorship services.
