Clare Youth Service

Serving the young people of Co. Clare since 1969 and over the years has become a leader in the field of Youth Services. There are over thirty separate groups including clubs, information points and projects in forty locations around the county.  The Service responds to all requests from communities to support volunteers to design and deliver appropriate groups in their areas.  Volunteers and Youth Service staff work with almost three thousand young people each year.

Clare Youth Service is committed to the delivery of quality youth work. It applies youth work values and principles to the areas of Advocacy, Alcohol & Drugs Education/Prevention, Certified Education & Training, Information Provision, Mental Health & Wellbeing, Targeted Interventions, Volunteer Support and Youth Justice Work.

While CYS receives funding from a number of Government Departments which fund targeted work with young people deemed ‘at risk’  in County Clare, the Service is dependent on the generosity of our Friends & Patrons, Community Groups, Local Business and Corporate sponsors to ensure that the Youth Service can offer programmes and support to the thousands of young people not covered by state funding.  We gratefully acknowledge the support received from all.

where your money goes

It is the policy of Clare Youth Service that all donations go directly to work with young people. Corporate sponsors can select the projects they wish to fund or support. If they have a particular area of interest that aligns with needs identified by young people then new projects can be developed to meet these needs.

RECENT PROJECTS
Supported by our Friends & Patrons,
Business and Community Interests.

THE YOUTH IDENTITY PROJECT
Thanks to funding from the Clare Ladies Cycling Club and donations from our Friends and Patrons the Youth Identity Project - a toolkit for working with young women, was developed in partnership with young women and was launched in 2018. This programme is being rolled out to young people throughout the Country. Over 80 adults have received training in the programme to date. Each adult will go on to work with groups of up to 12 young women who will explore influences on their sense of identity. It looks at values and self-esteem and builds skills in reflection and developing healthy relationships.

VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION EVENT
Each year over three hundred volunteers work throughout the county supporting young people in a number of youth clubs and projects. In recognition of their work the Youth Service hosts an annual gathering where volunteers with five and ten years’ service are awarded a specially designed ‘Pin’ to mark their work. The Event is being sponsored by Ei Electronics in Shannon as part of a three year sponsorship deal recognising the work of Volunteers active in all parts of Clare.

THE MURAL PROJECT
This project involved teenagers from Clare Youth Service in working together to refurbish a play area for young children at the TUSLA(Child and Family Agency) offices. It was a great opportunity for the teenagers to ‘give back’ and learn about their community and the challenges that some children have to cope with. This project was funded through donations from Friends and Patrons.

SHANNON ENGINE SUPPORT
• Shannon Engine Support funded the building of a small room in the Youth Service warehouse to facilitate small project work alongside the large scale art and music based activity.
• The space is now far more user friendly and allows for a greater range of programmes to be offered.

INTEL SHANNON
• The incredible staff from INTEL Shannon descended on the Junction and in one day totally transformed the outdoor space at the front and back of the building. The bushes were dug out – tons of garden waste removed and the areas cleared and cleaned. The work undertaken by INTEL Shannon allied with their cash donation is valued at approximately €2,500.

The Junction Community Garden

The garden was formally opened by John Burke and is enjoyed by young people and adults from the community.  Vegetables and flowers are grown while the outdoor space was particularly valuable for activities during restrictions. The space will be enjoyed for many decades to come while growing and cooking vegetables is a novel experience for many.
