East Galway & Midlands Cancer Support

East Galway & Midlands Cancer Support is dedicated to providing Practical, Emotional and Social Support for people living with cancer, their family and friends.

At our centre we aim to provide support for people living with cancer, their family and friends.  All our volunteers and therapists are fully trained and Garda vetted. We provide a wide range of complementary therapies free of charge in addition to facilitating four Support groups; Bowel, Family, Breast and Prostate. We have music and art classes. We have a purpose-built gym, the only one of its kind for cancer patients in Ireland from which we run 5+ fitness and resistance training classes per week. We open 5 days a week and have a 24-hour phone service.

Each day thousands of people struggle with the realities of having cancer. They are often isolated, fatigued, and concerned about the next steps they should take.  Along with the care and support cancer patients receive from their medical team, more and more of them are finding relief and comfort from attending support centres such as ours.

Besides the immediate emotional benefits of support groups, studies have shown that patients who attend them have a higher quality of life than those cancer patients who do not. Patients in all stages of cancer treatment can benefit from involvement in a support group, as support groups can lend to a feeling of normality and hope because they see other patients who have gone through the same thing.

We were formed in 2010. Our Centre aims to address the needs of our clients, whatever they may be, in a warm, safe, welcoming and confidential way. We facilitate and run four monthly support groups. We have a fully functioning gym, for cancer patients. We provide a fulltime drop in Centre as well as a 24hour phone service. We have a wide range of trained therapists providing complimentary services, free of charge. All our volunteers are Garda Vetted and fully trained.

We are a voluntary organization that survives entirely on the goodwill of the local community. We receive no funding from any state department or other services in the country. We providing a unique service to our local community, where presently there is none.
