DP Crossroads
Campaigning for a dedicated Arts, Culture, Heritage and Youth Center in Donabate Portrane.
overview
DP Crossroads
is a voluntary group set up to pursue the objective of developing and
delivering a dedicated Cultural & Youth center for Donabate
Portrane. This has been an objective
in the Donabate LAP since 2016 but no action has been taken. In recent years, FCC’s community
infrastructure has focused on sporting facilities. Thus leaving a significant cohort of people
with no amenities available to them.
This is of particular concern for the large number of adults and teenagers in the
area who are not involved in sporting activities. In 2022 the population on the peninsula
exceeded LAP population targets for 2029.
Between 2022 and 2029 we will have an 85% population increase without
the corelating social infrastructure.
This is a recipe for disaster. We believe that
we have a chance to develop and deliver a purpose built cultural and youth
facility for the needs of both existing and future residents of the
peninsula. We want to actively engage
with the council to help us deliver this important piece of social
infrastructure. |
where your money goes
The money will go towards maintaining and growing our campaign. In particular we want to focus on communication - ensuring residents are kept up to date and informed of our activities and initiatives with flyers/ posters/infozines/surveys and regular social media updates. We also need to pay meeting room fees (monthly) as well as fees for printing and other admin costs related to our activities.
So far we have been self-funded but we need the community's help to keep our campaign active.
Our group is constituted and registered with Fingal's PPN program but we will not be eligible to apply for funding for any of our activities until September 2024.
We expect to use all donations received during our campaign to support our activities. In the event that we do not use all donations any balance will be donated to Crosscare Youth Services.
history
Established following a public meeting hosted by Duncan Smith (TD) in October 2023, we are a diverse, non-party group of residents working towards getting dedicated facilities for Cultural and Youth activities (non-sporting) on the peninsula.
A dedicated center will promote community, culture, diversity and support our growing youth population. The development of the center at the same time as the building of 4,000 new homes in the area will ensure that we can support a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable community now and well into the future.
