where your money goes

All monies raised goes towards activities and programmes organised by the volunteers for and on behalf of Ballyhaunis town. Most recently, the Community Council completed refurbishment works on the Parochial Hall, the town's first purpose-built community building. Originally the site of the local ball alley, the Parochial was built in 1940 with funds raised from the parishioners.

Over the years, the Parochial Hall was the centre of parochial life in Ballyhaunis. It hosted dances, community cinema, plays, and musical performances. Bingo, billiards, and card games were regularly featured. It was also the site for Citizens' Information, St Vincent de Paul, GAA and the local credit union.

In 2018, the Community Council embarked on a campaign to renovate the Parochial Hall for its residents, its biggest refurbishment since 1940. A new roof was installed along with outside paint works in 2019. With support from LEADER and SEAI, the renovation works include modern heating, new flooring, widened stage, new kitchen, and new toilets to make the facility more comfortable and accessible to the community. Internal renovations began May 2021 and completed in October 2022. The Hall was also renamed the Community Hall, but still retained the Irish name, Árus Pobail Béal áth hAmhnais.

We have raised over half the €140,000 needed to ensure renovations are completed to the standard required. Your donations will go towards repaying the loans the Community Council secured to initiate the renovations. Monies also go towards the general upkeep of the hall to ensure the Community Council can offer an affordable and comfortable location for community groups.
