Cork & Kerry Outreach

Our Mission:

Support victims of child abuse in their adult lives through advocacy, referral, case-management, development of a multidisciplinary team and professional networking.

  • To assist in the development of service user self-confidence and trust-building skills in a dignified and understanding manner
  • To listen and encourage input from service users with regards to recommendations on the type of service and support they feel they now require.
  • To highlight the ongoing social isolation and marginalisation of service users in their own communities.
  • To promote awareness of the difficulties faced by service users and their families on a daily basis
  • To be proactive in the professional development of all staff and volunteers in dealing with service users.
  • To highlight the intergenerational effect child abuse has on families, particularly survivors of institutional abuse.
  • To advocate and negotiate with public figures and bodies at Local and Government levels in gaining proper and legitimate supports for service users and their families.

overview

My name is Caroline Farry. I am the Managing Director of the Cork Kerry Outreach Care,
Nationwide non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the Magdalene Laundries, Adoptees,
Mother and Baby Homes, County Homes and Boarded Out children, survivors and their families. I
have many years of experience, including personally dealing with issues surrounding the neglect
and suffering of many of these people were subjected to. My background is that I am a survivor of
St. Joseph's Training School, Middletown Co. Armagh, Northern Ireland. I have also been in Foster
Care . I have experienced first hand what our community needs on a day to day and weekly basis as
adults . I have been working with our community for 25yrs as an Outreach Advocate in all areas of
life.
Over the years, I observed a big gap in the market which our community where many are deprived
of the knowledge and/or the education to find out what they are entitled to. Many people in our
community are living in poverty and never received any redress .

The timeframe for assisting the survivors is crucial unless we provide assistance in the future for
some is bleak and continuity of support is paramount. Our project is a lifelong commitment to
support, not just the survivors of today but to continue the programme for others in the future.

survivors, grief counselling, life coaching and hospital appointments.
