The Dry Stone Wall Association of Ireland

“The Dry Stone Wall Association of Ireland seeks to promote the Art, Craft and Science of dry stone construction in Ireland”

The association’s aims are:


  • awareness of dry stone construction in Ireland
  • and assist in the advancement of the Art, Craft and Science of dry stone construction in Ireland amongst amateurs and professionals.



  • form a community of people interested in the construction and conservation of dry stone structures
  • encourage the conservation and maintenance of Ireland’s dry stone built heritage stock



  • enhance knowledge in a wider audience of the key place that dry stone structures and the practice of dry stone building have in our heritage
  • to run a series of lectures and workshops throughout the year
  • to be a repository of knowledge on all areas of dry stone construction
  • publish information on dry stone techniques and benefits of dry stone for the environment and sustainability
  • and create an archive which those interested in dry stone technique can access knowledge on the subject
  • be witness to and demonstrate the intangible cultural heritage value that dry stone building has to Irish culture.
  • to provide skills validation and training to those working with dry stone in Ireland



To Promote the Art, Craft, and Science of Ireland’s dry stone construction. We aim to do this in Ireland, and internationally, through the delivery of educational programs including; demonstrations, workshops, and training. In addition, we encourage the preservation of our dry stone heritage through the delivery of walks, talks, lectures, and publications, all of which are available as a public benefit.
