HUGG

HUGG is a national suicide bereavement charity. We support adults who have been bereaved by suicide by reducing isolation and stigma and promoting resilience and healing. We work to achieve this through our HUGG peer support groups led by trained volunteers who all have a lived experience of suicide; by the provisions of telephone support, and by developing the HUGG.ie website as a reservoir of information on suicide bereavement.

HUGG provides a free, safe and confidential space where people bereaved by suicide can share their experiences and feelings.

overview

HUGG was founded in 2017 by Fiona Tuomey following the death of her 11 year old daughter Milly by suicide. Our mission is to provide hope and healing to any adult bereaved by suicide. Our core service is the provision of HUGG Peer Support Groups across the country. We are unique, as all of our front line services are led by trained volunteers who themselves have a lived experience of suicide bereavement.

history

In January 2016, 11-year-old Milly Tuomey died by suicide. Devastated by her sudden death, Milly’s mother Fiona searched for a suicide support group in Dublin to help her with her grief but could not find one. So, in 2017, the first HUGG group was setup. The demand for new groups grew, so after discussion and research HUGG was established in 10 February 2018, Milly’s birthday.
