Portumna Forest Park is a treasured natural resource and vital part of our community's identity. When Coillte announced their Master Plan for the forest park, our community came together to ensure that its development reflects the voices, needs, and values of those who cherish it most.

Our Mission
The Protect Portumna Forest Park Community Group was formed in response to Coillte's brief public consultation on October 24th, 2023. A subsequent community meeting on December 12th, 2023, supported by an independent facilitator, highlighted the need for a dedicated working group to represent the community in the planning process. Since then, we’ve been actively raising awareness, gathering community input, and engaging with key stakeholders to ensure transparent, community-centered planning for the future of the forest park.

Our Achievements So Far

Conducted a comprehensive community survey to gather feedback and ideas - 1,095 responses received.
Hosted a public meeting on November 26th, 2024, attended by 75+ community members, to present survey findings and ensure continued community engagement.
Established a core working group of 10 members and a network of 55 dedicated volunteer 'Friends of the Forest'.
Actively communicating with Coillte and the community.
Ongoing engagement with local and national politicians.
