overview

CSSG provides a meeting place for people to come together, sharing similar challenges, concerns and offer support and advice on living with stroke. A telephone information and support service is provided, reducing anxiety once discharged from hospital. We currently offer education sessions with guest speakers, information leaflets, a range of activities such as Boccia,Yoga/Mindfulness, social outings, exercise/hydrotherapy classes, an opportunity to sing with the CSSG choir and peer support to new stroke survivors. The term stroke survivor focuses on a person’s resilience, hopefulness and ability. CSSG members demonstrate this in abundance with their enthusiasm, attitude and support for each other. CSSG has been described by members as being like family and that the support has been immeasurable.

where your money goes

Right now, we need your support for the following:

The Cork Stroke Support Centre - €150,000

Every year in Ireland, some 10,000 people suffer a stroke and 2,000 die as a result. Thousands more are left with stroke-related disabilities. Stroke has a personal, social and economical impact on the lives of those affected. There is wide recognition of the value of Stroke Support Groups to provide information and support and sustain ongoing rehabilitation goals.

The Cork Stroke Support Centre in Blackrock, Cork City provides a homely and supportive environment in which members can continue on their rehabilitation journey and access essential information and support. Funds raised will go towards maintaining and increasing the services available such as physiotherapy sessions, a wide range of courses, counselling, enabling activities and social outings.
