Inishowen Rivers Trust

A community based charity dedicated to protecting and enhancing the rivers and natural waterbodies of the Inishowen Municipal District and advancing the education of the public in our understanding of these waterbodies and the need to protect them.

Since its formation, the Trust has provided a wide range of awareness raising and training events for the community. The Trust is involved in a range of projects from river restoration, natural flood management, invasive species control, tree planting and biodiversity monitoring. Our educational programme, the Inishowen Rivers Guardians Training Programme, is open to all and provides specialised courses in skills that can be used to carry out practical work on our rivers.

The Inishowen Rivers Trust is a community based environmental charity whose mission is to conserve, protect and improve the waterbodies of Inishowen using nature-based solutions and to inspire communties by building skills and partnerships. 

The Trust operates a popular training programme, the Inishowen River Guardians, that is free to all participants. Volunteers across Inishowen get involved in the work of the Trust on a variety of projects that promote environmental protection and provide opportunties to learn outdoors.

Donations made to the Inishowen Rivers Trust are used to run projects that protect and enhance the rivers and natural waterbodies of Inishowen. 

All donations are lodged directly to the Trust bank account which is monitored and audited by our accountants. 

history

The origins of the Inishowen Rivers Trust began in 2013 during a river walk project on the Bredagh River in Moville. A wide range of events and collaborations finally resulted in the Trust becoming a company in 2016 and a charity in 2018. The Trust is operated soley through public funding and donations. It has one member of staff and a 9 member board of trustees.
