Kerry Cancer Support Group
Our aim is to provide social and emotional support to individuals going through their cancer journey. We use our buses to transport service users to Cork University Hospital, Bons Secours Cork and Mid-Western Oncology Hospital Limerick for treatment free of charge, our bridging transport scheme to transport individuals for treatment where no other service fits the bill. We provide information and support through our “peer companion” programme and also when we travel to schools and groups in the region. We also have a range of facilities including a trained counsellor available to service users and family members at our centre in Tralee and are delighted to be in partnership with Cork Cancer Care to distribute Blankets of Hope to cancer patients in the region. The services, supported by you, result in health, emotional and financial benefits for cancer patients and also benefit their families and carers. Our service users experience great emotional and social support from each other. The service has been likened to a “travelling support group”. We always listen to our service users and medical professionals and one of the things that we have been hearing is that we need to cater for wheelchair access in our fleet. For this reason, when we replace our Cork bus we will be sourcing one that is accessible to everyone. All of our services are consistent with our mission and it is the generous support of individuals like you that makes it possible for our organisation to stay on the road and continue to provide our vital services to the people of Kerry and beyond
