Maynooth GAA 3 County Walk

The campaign invites people everywhere to join fellow Maynooth GAA supporters as they walk 42km for their club on the 4th March 2023. In joining this initiative participants will be able to help generate the funds needed for the ongoing development works at our Moyglare Hall Pitches including a new community walkway. Participants who wish, can of course complete a portion of the walk if so desired and not necessarily the full 42 km. On the day, there will be a support bus traveling along the route.

Through a simple online registration process, our walkers will be able to garner sponsorship for their efforts and contribute to the future success of Maynooth GAA.

Simply Register as a Fundraiser and this will allow you to get your own personal fundraising page which will feed into the overall fundraiser.

Each participant must raise €200.

How to Donate?

If you going to do the walk then setup a personalised fundraising page by clicking the "Start Fundraising" button on this page. Follow the instructions and you will receive a page you can share with your family and friends to accept donations for you. All these donations will be automatically added to the overall total from all indiviual pages for the Grand Total.

If you would like to donate money, choose the walker from the list at the bottom of this page. You can search by name if needed. Then you will be guided to their page where you can add your donation in a secure but simple fashion.

All participants must understand that participating in this event is potentially hazardous, and that they should not enter or participate unless they are medically able and properly trained.

In consideration of the acceptance of this entry, you will have assumed full and complete responsibility for any injury or accident which may occur while you are taking part in the event. You are also aware of and assume all risks associated with participating in this event, including but not limited to falls, contact with other participants, effect of weather, traffic, and conditions of the route and access points. You agree that no liability whatsoever shall attach to MAYNOOTH GAA CLUB, Event Sponsors, any Event Official or any Member of MAYNOOTH GAA CLUB in respect of injury, loss or damage suffered by you in or by reason of the event, however caused.

Participants in this Event are not covered by the GAA Injury Benefit Fund. Each individual should ensure that they have cover in place in the event of an accident as per their own individual requirements

Starting at Darcy's Bridge in County Westmeath the walk will take place along the Royal Canal, passing through Meath and then Kildare all the way to the Harbour in Maynooth and then up to the clubhouse. A total of 42.5 kms.

FAQ's

Do I need to do anything before the walk?

Ensure you have registered with iDonate or the event organisers, and signed the Terms & Conditions

What should I wear?

Ensure you have comfortable clothing and suitable footwear, appropriate for the expected weather conditions.

What should I bring?

There is no need to bring anything with you for the event. Refreshment stops will be available every 5-6kms on the route. Complimentary lunch is provided in Gregory Inn, Enfield.

Where should we meet?

Everyone should meet at the clubhouse at 7.00am on the day of the event. Buses leave at 7.20am sharp to transport you to Darcy’s Bridge. The nearest Eir Code is N91D9P0.

What time does the walk start?

8.30am start.

Will I be given anything?

You will each be given a bib to wear while walking and a card with the contact details of the event co-ordinators. On that card, please provide details of your ‘in case of emergency’ contact. You will also be given a voucher to claim your complimentary lunch in Gregory Inn, Enfield.

If I have a bag where can I leave it?

Any bag can be left on the bus but please ensure they contain no valuables.

Where will we walk and how long will it take?

The walk starts at Darcy’s Bridge, Westmeath and finishes in Maynooth GAA. Map and approximate timings are attached.

Should I bring water or snacks?

There is no need as water, fruit and snacks will be provided at refreshment stops every 5-6kms on the route.

Should I bring lunch?

Tea or coffee will be provided at Robintail Harbour (approx. 10km from the start), and lunch will be provided at Gregory Inn, Enfield (approx. 12.30-1pm). Both are complimentary.

Will there be toilets?

The transport bus will stop at the Enfield Service station en-route to Darcy’s bridge for a toilet break. Toilets also available at Robintail Harbour, Gregory Inn in Enfield and Fitness Factory in Kilcock.

What if I am feeling unwell?

Ring one of the co-ordinators who will arrange for someone to help you. If you are not able to ring please ask the person closest to you to do so.

Is there a first aid kit?

There will be first aid kits available, please ring one of the co-ordinators so they can get them to you. Plasters will be available at the refreshment stops.

Can I decide not to walk?

At any stage you can decide not to participate in the event, even if you have registered.

What if I don’t want to walk all the way?

That is not a problem, just ring the co-ordinator who will arrange for transport to pick you up at the nearest possible point.

Do I have to do the walk at a particular pace?

No, you do not have to keep up with anyone, please walk the route at your own pace. It is hoped that people will regroup at Ferns Lock Bridge (2km west of Kilcock) so that the group can complete the last leg to the club together.

Finishing

Participation in this event is to be celebrated as it brings many people from different parts of the club together to raise money for Maynooth GAA and a community project. To mark the completion of the 42.5km the group will be given a garda escort for the last leg of the walk up to the clubhouse!
