The loss of a newborn child is a tragic, devastating and life-changing event. Sunday, October 15th is International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. It’s a day that honours lives lost to miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal death.

On Sunday, October 22^nd, 2023, I will be participating in the Valencia Half Marathon. I will be remembering our son Conor who died on September 13th, 2012, and all those babies whose lives were simply too short.

I will also be raising funds for Umamanita(www.umamanita.es), a Spanish-based charity, with a strong Irish connection, that was instrumental in helping me and my wife María José take baby steps during our time of bereavement. Umamanita works tirelessly to support anyone affected by the death of a baby during or after pregnancy and to improve the healthcare received by families by providing training to hospital staff & institutions. They also carry out scientific research in the field of death prevention.

I will match each € raised. I hope you can support this great cause by donating what you can.

Perder a un hijo te cambia la vida de manera trágica y demoledora.

Cada 15 de octubre se conmemora en todo el mundo el Día de la Muerte perinatal. Este día está dedicado al recuerdo de los bebés fallecidos durante el embarazo, el parto y el primer año de vida y a la visualización del duelo perinatal.

El próximo sábado 22 de octubre, participaré en la Media Maratón de Valencia. Le dedicaré la carrera a nuestro hijo Conor, que falleció el 13 de septiembre de 2012, y a todos los bebés cuyas vidas fueron demasiado cortas, pero que dejaron una gran huella.

También recaudaré fondos para Umamanita (www.umamanita.es), cuyo apoyo fue clave para que mi mujer María José y yo avanzáramos paso a paso durante nuestro proceso de duelo. Umamanita trabaja sin descanso para apoyar a familias en duelo por la muerte de un bebé durante la gestación o al poco de nacer, imparte formaciones a sanitarios e instituciones para mejorar la atención sanitaria recibida por las familias y, además, investiga para evitar muertes prevenibles.

Por cada euro donado, yo aportaré otro, doblando así la recaudación. Espero que puedas apoyar esta causa tan necesaria e importante.
