This page is to raise funds for my brother's medical expenses. James Anthony Desmond, known to his friends and family in Ireland as Tony, has been an English teacher in China for over 11 years. He had a fall on February 26th 2023 and suffered a fractured skull and brain haemorrhage, potentially life-changing injuries. He has been in a coma since. He has been receiving excellent care in Shenzhen, and we are advised that it is likely that he will wake from the coma, but they can't make any predictions about his recovery after that. Me, my brother Tom and our extended family would like to bring him home to Ireland on his discharge from hospital. We wish more than anything that he'll make a full recovery, but it could be a long road and he will require further care and rehabilitation after discharge.

We're raising funds to go towards the cost of his stay in hospital in China, and the as yet unknown cost of bringing him home and accessing care in Ireland. We've been told that his medical insurance will only cover 70% of his hospital bill, which includes surgeries, and stays in an ICU and HDU.

Any donation big or small is appreciated and we would like to thank all of Tony's friends and colleagues in Ireland, the UK, and China for all the help and support they've given us and him so far.
