In 2023, as part of the Wildbiome Project, organised by Mo Wilde, I foraged, processed and ate wild food only for 3 months. 'Why?' I hear you ask... Well, after teaching about wild food as a practise for nature connection for over ten years, I wanted to really answer the question, "Is it possible for me to survive by eating only wild food gathered from this land? And how would it feel to do so?"

Thankfully, Monica Wilde had the same thought, as did 24 other foragers who joined the inaugural 'Wildbiome project', eating wild food only for period of one or three months. You can read about fascinating the results here: https://monicawilde.com/the-wildbiome-project-results/.

Since then, eating wild food has become an integral part of my life and I have spent a further four months, spanning under two years, eating wild food only throughout all four seasons.

This year, 2025, the Wildbiome Project 2 returns and it's bigger and better than ever. From 1st April - 1st July inclusive, I will be eating wild food only once again and recording my results. We are hoping to gather even more data, from various different countries, to expand our knowledge about this essential topic.

I am particularly interested in this project through the lens of food sovereignty, the preservation of indigenous and traditional lifeways, Irish language revitalisation and ecological resilience.

And I need your help! I need financial support to purchaseGut Microbiome and Nutrition Status Tests to take at the beginning and end of the study as well as to fund a food tracker app to log the food I am eating each day.

This is a citizen science project and the results will be published and peer reviewed. We are excited to share this journey with you, update you about our progress and share our findings.
