The Master's Coombe Camino Virtual Challenge

On Monday 4^th September 2023 we will begin a week-long virtual Camino Challenge to help raise funds for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at The Coombe Hospital.

The challenge is in support of The Coombe Hospital Team which started the Camino Frances last year in a bid to walk the 790kms from St Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostella in five trips over five years to mark the journey towards the Hospital’s bicentenary in 2026.

The Coombe Hospital Camino Team has chosen to raise much-needed funds for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the hospital which will be used to provide overnight accommodation for parents from outside Dublin whose extremely sick babies have been transferred to The Coombe for specialist life-saving care.

Providing overnight accommodation to parents who do not have family or friends in Dublin, or the means to pay for hotel  accommodation, is an important part of the work of Friends of the Coombe.  The ability to get a good night’s sleep, have a shower, take a break, spend time with other children etc. can make an enormous difference to a parent who finds themselves a long way from home with their critically unwell baby.  It can give them the space and comfort they need to gather themselves and has a positive impact on their ability to cope with what is an unimaginable and uncertain situation.
