Meath Gold Coast Walk

Eastern Gaels GAA Club are looking for your support!

On Monday 6 May next, Meath’s 60th and Ireland’s newest GAA club are organising a fundraising walk the length of our county! Participants will walk the full length of Meath’s

Gold coast … along the beautiful beaches of Gormanston, Mosney, Laytown, Bettystown and finishing on Mornington Beach, not far from our own home base.

As a new club providing much needed facilities in our East Meath community, Eastern Gaels have experienced substantial costs just to get up and running. Surprisingly, while there are many grants available to sports clubs through a variety of sources, there is no specific funding to help GAA clubs in their start-up phase. This is quite anomalous as this is when significant funding is most needed.

Through a combination of a number of generous sponsors and self-financing we have successfully negotiated a challenging maiden year. But what a year it has been!

Our Ladies team won a Meath Senior Football Championship, our Men became the first new club to compete in the Meath Championship in almost 60 years, our Little Stars Academy for Juveniles was born and continues to flourish and Eastern Gaels members have commenced coaching in our local schools.

We are keen to build on this start and will embark on a number of fundraising initiatives this year, starting with our Gold Coast Walk.

Participants will be meeting at the Delvin River in Gormanston and walking along the golden beaches to the River Nanny in Laytown and on to the mouth of the River Boyne, a distance of just under 14 km.

We would welcome your support on this fundraising venture. The full list of participants can be found on the home page so if you are looking for a family member or friend you will find their beautiful photo there as well as a link to sponsor their efforts!

If you don’t know anyone in particular you can sponsor the club at this link or alternatively pick a favourite walker and sponsor them …. we have a mix of all ages, shapes, sizes, and playing and walking ability!
