My name is Mike Mooney and I am a firefighter in Limerick City Fire & Rescue Service. I have 2 Autistic children, Ronan is 6 and he attends St. Vincents school Lisnagry, Limerick, Darragh is 3 and was diagnosed with Autism on the 3rd of February 2016.
We recieved a puppy (Emmy) from My Canine Companion last November. (She is currently undergoing training). Emmy has made a huge improvement to the 2 children and to our family. Since Emmy arrived the 2 boys are being more social and their communication is improving.
The work these dogs do is nothing short of magical. I feel every Autistic child in Ireland should be in a position to recieve a Service dog to improve their familiies as it has ours.
