I’m a 36 year old primary school principal from Oldcastle, Co. Meath and this summer I am undertaking a self-funded, solo cycle across Canada to raise funds for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. The cycle will commence from Vancouver at the end of June 2022 and finish in the town of Antigonish, Nova Scotia on the weekend of 6/7 August 2022. The route traverses nine Canadian provinces (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia) and it covers a distance of 6200km in total.
Motor Neurone Disease affects everybody differently but usually the disease will result in a loss of independence to the point where everyday things like walking, talking and eating may become virtually impossible. There is currently no cure for MND and the majority of people die within 1000 days of being diagnosed. Every cent raised from the cycle goes towards the provision of specialist medical equipment and home care assistance for people living with Motor Neurone Disease. Any donation big or small is greatly appreciated. All donations are processed securely.
