Event Details

We are three good friends, Bobby Kerr, Frank Cronin and Liam Sheehan. Bobby and Frank are cancer survivors and they were kindly supported by their friend Liam during their ordeal. Now we have decided to grab life and do things!!

First adventure is to climb Pointe Burnaby, a 14,300 ft mountain in the Alps. You may recoginise the name from Greystones! Well a woman called Elizabeth Hawkins Whitshed was from the Burnaby in Greystones and she left for Switzerland to recuperate from an illness in the late 1800's, Whilst living there she saw that women were not mountain climbers but men enjoyed it, Elizabeth...

The goats reached the summit of pointe Burnaby, the cling started at 5 am , reached the summit at 12.30, fresh snow made the climb difficult, the top was emotionally charged but fun, the descent was slow, very tired bodies reached the Tracuit hut in the mountains. The group celebrated the achievement. Coincidentally the Caroline Foundation launched a significant trial following its research work on the same day, we are delighted to be raising money for this great cause.

This week we climbed Lugnaquilla Mountain, a beautiful walk to 3212 ft, it was a beautiful morning, we made a steep start zig zagging up to a lake , then ascended to the top. Beautiful weather for a while at the top, bad weather was coming so we descended the steep slope to the valley, a slow and careful procedure. We were delighted to be joined by our great Friend Pat Gleeson who ably led us, also imparted interesting tips about climbing and surviving at altitude. Thank you Pat!

12 Jun 2019

The 3 goats have been training hard for this adventure, two climbs per week, this week we tackled Djouce and Sphinx in Glendalough. Both walks approx 5 hours. We enjoy great chat, meet interesting people and get the stamina needed into the body.
