So cruelly taken from us at the tender age of 45 years.
Before, during and after our horrific ordeal, Cancer Care West were there for us. They supported us in so many ways. Most of all they stopped us from sinking deep into despair.
Not knowing what to do or where to turn they helped me every step of this cruel journey.
They also helped me with the most difficult tasks facing a soon to be single parent with two girls.
I will be forever in their debt.
I heard about this Galway Bay Swim. I loved swimming. I could swim, but only in the pool, not very fast and not for very long.
I told someone I was going to swim the Galway Bay Swim in memory of Michelle and raise money for Cancer Care West. I immediately got lots of offers of help for babysitting, coaching, training, a boat skipper and crew for the boat.
I got so many contributions and sponsorship - a testament to what Michelle meant to them.
I trained like a lunatic, enjoying every moment of it (well maybe not every moment of it) and had a wonderful, emotional and thrilling successful crossing.
In 2018 I was so jealous of those that swam the bay that year, that I promised myself I'd do it in 2019.
So here we are one month out, my skipper Brian is onboard, Debi and Niall my boat crew are onboard, the training is going well and I'm looking forward to my 2nd Galway Bay Swim.
It is a real honour and privilege to be allowed take part in the Frances Thornton Memorial Galway Bay Swim.
I'm asking you to sponsor me and contribute to Cancer Care West so that other families and individuals can have a place to turn to in their darkest hour.
If you are free on Sat 20th Jul please come to Blackrock diving tower in Salthill, be part of the welcoming home party and one of the highlights of the year in Galway city.
