Charleville and District Vintage Club are hosting a Vintage Car, Tractor, Truck and Motorbike Run on Sunday 6th of October 2019 in Kilbrin, Co. Cork. All funds raised here will go directly to the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.
My Dad was diagnosed earlier this year with Motor Neurone Disease. We did not know much about the disease initially and we were directed to the IMNDA website by Dad's neurologist. The IMNDA is the only organisation of its kind providing care and support to people with Motor Neurone Disease, their families, friends and carers. Their key services include home visiting by a dedicated MND nurse (of which there are 4 currently in Ireland), financial assistance towards home care help and the provision of specialist medical equipment and appliances on loan free of charge to their clients. The Association also supports research into the causes and treatment of the disease through speciaifc financial bursaries.
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is an incurable, progressive, neurological condition that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching the muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting.
MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order.
The cause of MND is not known. There may be environmental factors that trigger the damage in people who are susceptible to the disease. On going research is necessary to find out the nature of these environmental factors, and what makes one person more susceptible than another.
MND strikes people of all ages and currently there is no cure, however symptoms can be managed to help the person achieve the best possible quality of life.
Motor Neurone disease is not untreatable, it is underfunded!

Many Thanks for your support.
The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) is the only organisation of its kind in the country providing specialised services to families affected by this terminal condition. The Association cannot slow the progression of MND or change the outcome but we can alleviate the feelings of isolation and frustration. We offer consistent support to approximately 450 families across Ireland who otherwise would have nowhere else to turn. Everybody with MND has different needs at different stag
