Aoibheann's Pink Tie (supporting Children and their families during their Child's battle to beat Cancer) We are a charity that assists the ...
I first came across Aoibheann's Pink Tie after seeing them on Secret Millionaire, it was from that moment I was drawn to children's oncology. Fast forward 7 years and I'm a paediatric oncology/haematology nurse at Birmingham Children's Hospital, gaining invaluable skills and experience to bring back to the children of Ireland.
When a child is diagnosed with cancer, life is put on hold, many treatment's are intense, requiring long periods of impatient stays. Due to the toxicity of chemotherapy children also suffer from multiple short and long term side effects. St. John's Ward, the national children's oncology unit are dedicated to treating children with cancer by providing high quality care.
Aoibheann's Pink Tie are there for the children and family's to provide much needed practical and financial support. Assisting with mortages, bills, accommodation and general support, They also have family fun days, send families on respite, supply chemo ducks, provide Hickman Dry Suits so children with central lines can swim, the list is endless. Families of children who have passed are sent flowers on their anniversary, ensuring families know they are never forgotten.
Aoibheann's Lighthouse was recently opened, a house beside the children's hospital where children and families can escape to. It allows for precious time away from the four hospital walls, treatment and beeping machines.
I've seen first hand the effect's that cancer has on a child and family, Jimmy and everyone at Aoibheann's Pink Tie are dedicated to making sure that no one is alone during their battle.
Childhood cancer is tough, we've got to be tougher so that no child fights alone!

Aoibheann's Pink Tie was set up in 2010 after our friend and Chairperson Jimmy Norman's daughter, Aoibheann, passed away. During their long battle with cancer, Jimmy and his wife Annma
