My name is Uisneach (pronounced Ush-Knock).  I am ten years old.  I am a wheelchair user.  I live with a rare genetic condition called 1p36 Micro-Deletion Syndrome.  When it was diagnosed the doctors were not able to tell my parents if I would ever be able to walk or talk.  I used to communicate using sign language and through my iPad.  But because of services like Enable Ireland, through which I get physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and occupational therapy I can now walk for short distances and talk for Ireland!

But services like those offered by Enable Ireland have been impacted hard by COVID-19.  That is why I have set myself a challenge to walk unaided for 1km in support of Enable Ireland.

I have already started my training.  I walk around my local park almost every evening.  My aim is to be able to walk for 1km unaided by June 13.

I know times are tough for lots of people but people with disabilities have been hit particularly hard.  I would really appreciate if you could give whatever you can so that services like those offered by Enable Ireland can continue.

I really like encouragement and am highly motivated by people cheering and clapping.  But since COVID-19 restrictions will probably still be in place by June 13 I would ask that you send short video messages of encouragement to my Dad saying things like: “Go on Uisneach, you can do it!”, “Keep going Uisneach!”, “Well done Uisneach!” as well as plenty of cheering and clapping.
