Peggy’s Personal Donegal Camino from Ireland’s most Northerly point to Europe’s highest cliffs.

29th August – 5th September 2020

Hello, my name is Peggy Stringer, nee Kelly, originally from Carndonagh. I am the Vice President of the Donegal Association Dublin and every year I do a leg of the Camino but unfortunately this year was not to be nor were we able to host the Donegal Person of the Year’s Gala Ball. This meant that our traditional fundraising for charity could not take place which is why I have decided to fundraise for Cancer Care West for which our current Donegal Person of the Year Noel Cunningham is patron. I have decided to create my own ‘Personal Donegal Camino’ trekking over 160km through Donegal’s most scenic treks, walks and mountain climbing.  I will be taking in some of the most scenic and spectacular locations in Ireland along Donegal's Wild Atlantic Way.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and I hope you will kindly donate to the very important Cancer Care West charity.

Stops

  • Starting at Ireland's Most Northerly Point Malin Head heading along the rugged Atlantic coast towards Malin, Isle of Doagh, Ballyliffin, Clonmany, The Urris Hills with their spectacular views as far west as Tory Island and Muckish Mountain, taking the ferry from Buncrana to Rathmullan where we make our way north through the Stunning Fanad Peninsula, stopping for a dip at Ballymastocker Strand which has been voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and continuing to Fanad Lighthouse which has been voted one of the most spectacular lighthouses in the world.

  • Continuing west we will cross over the Neil Blaney Bridge with its stunning views arriving in Carrigart Village to begin the Rosguill Peninsula. Here we will travel to Downings taking in the Atlantic Drive and famous Murderhole Beach.

  • Continuing west to Doe Castle and Ards Forest.

  • Continuing our journey westward we will arrive in Dunlewey to begin our ascent of Errigal- Donegal's most famous and highest mountain .

  • We will pass Narin and Portnoo to arrive at the Sheskinmore Nature Reserve in Sandfield, Ardara.  It is regarded as one of the most important Nature Reserves in Ireland.

  • The final leg of my Personal Donegal Camino will bring us to the top of Sliabh Liag and the One Man's Pass. The cliffs reach a height of 1,972 feet/601 meters, which makes them nearly 3 times higher than the Cliffs of Moher and almost twice the height of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
