We are the Henley Mermaids. Please support our Bristol Channel Relay Challenge 2021 to fundraise for a great cause.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our fundraising page. We are the Henley Mermaids: Laura Reineke, Fiona Print, Joan Fennelly, Susan Barry and Jo Robb. We are all regular swimmers with the Henley Open Water Swimming Club. Visit our website for more details www.HenleyMermaids.com (click the link at the end of this story)

Following a successful swim relay of the English Channel in July 2020 (raising £35,000 for Henley Music School) we have set our sights on their next ambitious challenge, which is a swim relay of The Bristol Channel from Illfracombe in North Devon to Swansea in Wales. If we Mermaids successfully complete the Bristol Channel, we will be the first women only team to complete it.

With a distance of 25 miles between Ilfracome and Swansea (as the crow flies), the Bristol Channel is renowned for its strong tidal forces which could easily add 10+ miles onto the distance that we will have to cover, not to mention the colder temperatures of the Irish Sea, possibly swimming in the dark, dealing with jellyfish, and all whilst swimming through busy shipping lanes of the Bristol Channel.

As a group of five ladies in our 40s & 50s based in Henley on Thames, we are aiming to undertake our Bristol Channel relay challenge on the anniversary of our English Channel swim, on July 22nd, 2021 (all contingent on COVID restrictions and weather conditions).

We have decided to use our Henley Mermaids Bristol Channel Relay Challenge 2021 to fundraise in collaboration with SunriseForBrainConditions.org  for the following wonderful charities:  Huntington's Disease Association of Ireland, Young Parkinsons Ireland (supporting Dublin Neurological Institute for 2021), Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, MS Ireland. All funds raised on this page will go directly to and will be split equally between the four charities. Funds raised will be used to provide specialist care and support to people with these conditions and their families. Funds are urgently needed and your support in 2021 will greatly help these 4 worthy Brain Condition charities.

We hope you can help our fundraise and these great causes by donating whatever you can. Simply click the Donate button above. All donations are processed securely.

Many Thanks for your support.
