My 170km Ring of Kerry

Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

Following a diagnosis of prostate cancer and chronic pulmonary sarcoidosis this year, I decided to take up cycling to combat the side effects of the heavy levels of cortisone used as a treatment.  My goal is to take part in the Ring of Kerry cycle ride which passes near my house in Ireland among the beautiful lakes and mountains of Co. Kerry.  Unfortunately due to Covid, the ride will not take place in Kerry in 2021 but I will be attempting to ride the 170km at the end of June in France. Hopefully we will all back to normal for 2022, where I plan to be fit enough to tackle the ascent to Moll's Gap (not easy on 50% lung capacity).
I've chosen to fundraise for Down Syndrome Kerry . All funds raised here will go directly to this great cause.
I hope you can help me by donating whatever you can. Simply click the Donate button above. All donations are processed securely.

Many Thanks for your support.

    Well done Nick. Great job!!!

Hi Etienne. Thanks for your kind donation to Down syndrome Kerry. I\'m surprised I haven\'t run into you as I\'m out near Thenney on a lot of training rides. Who knew it was uphill from Touques to there!

RING OF KERRY CYCLE MAJOR UPDATE Originally I had planned to do the 170km ride at the end of June so as to have the chance of my son, William, joining me from England but it doesn’t look as though the travel restrictions will be lifted by then. Also the drug that I am taking for the prostate cancer, Zytiga is causing real problems. My face, body and legs are completely swollen. So much so that I hardly recognise myself in the mirror, I have problems seeing as my eyes are puffed up and I am even having problems walking let alone cycling. Instead of losing weight, I have gained 10 kilos. The ridiculous thing is that I never had a problem with my prostate until the Urologist spotted a swelling during a regular scan, now I feel like shit. Whatever happened to those nice energy rushes and hallucinations from the Cortisone taken for the Sarcoidosis. So I am going to stop taking the Zytiga and take my chances with the Radiation treatment after I have completed the cycle ride, which I am now going to move forward to the beginning of June. Hopefully I can lose some of the bloat by then.
