Event Details

Oisín's 100km run in memory of my mam Louise Casey

The Challenge:

Starting on the 3rd of June I plan to run 4km everyday in the month until I run at least 100km. My school, Scoil Réalt na Mara, have agreed to support my fundraising event hosting its own "Purple Run" in the school on 3rd June. If all goes according to plan, I will complete the challenge with all my classmates before we finish up for our Summer holidays.

Why:

I'm doing this challenge in memory of my mam Louise to raise much needed funds for St. Francis Hospice. She was the best mam ever. I am so so lucky. Unfortunately Mam was diagnosed with stomach cancer over 2 years ago. This was a real bombshell to all our family. In spite of having to go through numerous bouts of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, an 8 hour operation and months to recover Mam never let it get her down. She is the strongest person I know (even stronger than dad with all his muscles). No matter how tough things got she was always in a good mood. I can't remember her complaining once. She always put everyone else before herself especially Odhrán, Erin and me. She is simply the best ever.
I've chosen to fundraise for St. Francis Hospice because Mam was lucky to spend her last few days in the Hospice in Raheny. All the staff in the Hospice were so kind and caring to Mam. They let my dad and auntie spend so much time with Mam when she was really sick. I would like to do something in return to help the Hospice out. All funds raised here will go directly to this great cause.

I hope you can help me by donating whatever you can. Simply click the Donate button above. All donations are processed securely.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. You can also share my page using Share options below. This is a great way to show your support.

Many thanks for your support.

21 Jun 2021

Day 18 (Sun 20th June) - Another glorious morning in Ardgillan, where I was joined by one of my best mates, Tom, and his family; Mark, Alison and Patrick. Thanks for running with me guys - the company was great (but the 7up and magnum afterwards was even better)💜💜 My dad was delighted to get a day off being Fathers Day and his birthday💜💜 Thanks to everyone for the support. It is simply amazing. I might see some of you around Skerries during the week - I’ll be in my purple t-shirt💜💜💜

20 Jun 2021

Day 17 (Sat 19th June) - what an amazing turnout by allot of the Defined Fitness crew (dads a member of the gym). Thanks to Andy and all his members for their support. Andy gave me and my brother and sister honorary membership and some really cool t-shirts with our initials on them💜💜💜 With everyone pushing me on I set another PB for 4km. Absolutely delighted today especially as we pass €18,000 in online donations. Thanks to everyone for helping surpass this unbelievable amount💜💜💜

19 Jun 2021

Day 16 (Fri 18th June) - My cousins and Aunt Trish joined me in Ardgillan this evening for today’s 4km. Thanks so so much Stephen (and your dog), who we met during today’s run, for your extremely generous donation. What a kind gentleman. THANKS 💜💜 I’m heading to Newbridge Park (near Donabate) tomorrow morning for my 4km with Andy’s crew from Defined Fitness. We’re starting at 0800 for anyone that would like to join us. Once again thanks to everyone for the continued support and helping me to see this challenge through to the end.

18 Jun 2021

Day 15 (Thur 17th June): suspicions confirmed - Dad is slowing me down💜💜 I did a loop around the block on my own today and absolutely smashed my PB by over 3 minutes. I guess I can forgive him considering how OLD he is💜💜 I’m absolutely delighted with my performance today. I can’t wait to be joined by some of my cousins for tomorrow’s run💜💜

17 Jun 2021

Day 14 (We’d 16th June) - What a glorious evening for a run around Ardgillan. If you’ve never been, I strongly recommend a visit with all the family (dogs welcome). The picture is the tough uphill drag leading to the playground. Thanks to my dad, Uncle Den and Aunt Ger for their continued support. Oh and by the way a NEW PB taking OVER 1 MINUTE OFF MY PREVIOUS PB. See you around Skerries tomorrow

16 Jun 2021

Day 13 (Tues 15th June) - Needed a bit of time to myself today so stuck on my headphones and hit the dreadmill for another 4km. A great way to get some exercise in while watching one of my favourite programmes (Lego Masters). I felt much better after completing the run. My dad’s gym (Defined Fitness) are planning to join me on Saturday morning at 0800 in Newbridge House near Donabate for my run. Can’t wait to see you all there. Thanks to everyone

15 Jun 2021

Day 12 (Mon 14th June) - decided to do something different today so went on the treadmill (or dreadmill as Uncle Denis calls it). 4.5km later and I've completed half of my running challenge (50km down 50km to go). Once again thanks to everyone for the support. It has been AMAZING

14 Jun 2021

Day 11 (Sun 13th June) - back on track this morning getting my 4km in around the hockey pitches in Skerries before playing a football match. Thanks so much to Skerries Hockey. Club, in particular Caoimhe, for creating such a supportive atmosphere this morning. It was very emotional doing the final lap around the hockey pitch with the support of my family. Thanks to everyone who bought raffle tickets for the clubs raffle to support my challenge. I only wish there were prizes for everyone. 💜💜🏑🏑💜💜

13 Jun 2021

Day 10 (Sat 12th June) - I didn’t manage to get my 4km in today as I lost track of time doing what 11 year olds do - spending time playing with my friends. Not to worry as I’m still on target to complete my 100km challenge in June, even without doing a little extra (which I plan to) to make up for today.

13 Jun 2021

Day 9 (11th June) - I struggled to get motivated to do today’s run as I was pretty tired after an 8km walk to Ardgillan with my class. But once I got started I felt so much better for it and was more energised after running more than 4km on the South Strand in Skerries. Thanks to Fingal Independent and Skerries News for the great write ups supporting my challenge.

11 Jun 2021

Day 8 (Thurs 10th June) - What a glorious day for a run with my dad along the South Strand in Skerries. The sun was shining on us whilst the breeze was keeping us nice and cool. Thanks to Skerries Hockey Club who are holding a raffle to support my fundraising for St. Francis Hospice. I’ll be doing laps of the hockey/football pitches on Sunday morning starting at 11.35 whilst my sister and brother do their hockey training. Hope to see you there.

10 Jun 2021

Day 7 (Wed 9th June) - Another 4km done. Nothing extra today as I had a football match tonight. It was my first run on my own and my fastest so far (dad was obviously slowing me down). Thanks to all for the donations and shares.

09 Jun 2021

Day 6 (Tue 8th June) - That’s today’s 4km done. A lovely morning for 4 loops of the football/hockey pitches beside Skerries Community Centre. Another landmark today with online donations surpassing €15,000 (this excludes all offline donations raised during Scoil Réalt na Mara’s Purple Fun Run). I’m positively shocked at all the support. Thanks again to everyone. You are all amazing.

08 Jun 2021

Day 5 (Mon 7th June) - what a lovely day for a quick 4km run in the Phoenix Park, the largest park in Europe. Thanks to Dara for coming out and joining me. I’m planning to run around the football fields beside the Skerries Community Centre tomorrow at 10.00 if anyone would like to join me.

07 Jun 2021

Day 4 (Sun 6th June) - A quick run around Maynooth this morning with my Auntie Trish and cousin Senan, who have been amazing since mam passed. Thanks for joining me guys. I’m planning on running in the Phoenix Park tomorrow starting outside Dublin Zoo at 12.30. Look out for the purple t-shirts. Please keep sharing my link. Thanks to absolutely everyone. 💜💜💜💜

06 Jun 2021

Day 3 (Sat 5th June) - A wet morning in Maynooth couldn’t stop me from doing over 6km around the town and university. Thanks to all my family and friends that turned out in the rain to join me. Once again thanks to everyone for their continued support. You are all amazing💜💜

06 Jun 2021

Day 2 - What a glorious morning for a 4km run in Ardgillan Castle earlier. I was fortunate to be joined by my family and friends. Planning to run in the old part of Maynooth college tomorrow morning (Saturday 5th June) around 0930. Once again thanks so much to everyone for the continued support.

04 Jun 2021

I eventually kicked off my challenge this morning. Thanks so so much to all the staff in Scoil Réalt na Mara, it’s Parents Committee , Fathers Melvyn and James and all the pupils and parents that donated today at the school gate collection in aid of my fund raising for St. Francis Hospice in memory of my mam, Louise. We are simply blown away by your generosity. Thanks so so much to everyone.

03 Jun 2021

OMG the response has been amazing. Thank you all so so much. I’ve decided to raise my target (again) this time to €11,000 - that’s €1,000 for every year of my age. Once again thanks so so much - you are all amazing. Lots of love from Oisín, Erin & Odhrán

02 Jun 2021

In light of the overwhelming support, I’ve already smashed my original target so I’ve increased it a little
