Thank you for taking the time to visit our fundraising page on iDonate.ieWhat are we doing ?
We are taking part in the 2022 Arctic Challenge.
The challenge is .....…to survive in the harsh, frozen, unforgiving lanscape of Arctic Finland. Along with our fellow adventurers we will be going off grid with no running water or electricity for six days. We will learn Arctic survival skills before putting this all in practice transporting all our equipment across the Lapland wilds and camping out overnight in minus 20 degrees celsius.
Who are we raising funds for?We are fundraising for DEBRA Ireland, which is the Butterfly Skin charity. This charity does fantastic work in Ireland aiding and supporting those who suffer from Epidermolysis Bullosa. You can read more about this rare, severe, genetic skin blistering disease below, in About the Cause. All funds raised here will go directly to DEBRA.
What is our inspiration?
Our inspiration is a very special person who we had the fortune to call our cousin; James Varley.
James suffered from Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) and spent a lot of his childhood being treated at Great Ormond Street. Despite suffering constant pain and discomfort James always greeted everyone with a smile, never complained and loved to sit and chat - he could spend hours discussing anything and everything. James did not focus on his illness despite the huge impact it had on his day to day life.
James passed away aged 45 in April 2021.
James was an amazing person and his passing has left a huge void for his immediate and extended family and all his friends.
We became aware of DEBRA from James' parents and brothers and thought it was fitting to go through a week of discomfort to raise funds for DEBRA considering the pain and suffering all sufferers from EB have to endure every day.
We hope you can help us by donating whatever you can.
