Joyce Country Truck Run 2021 in aid of Galway Parkinson’s Association & My Canine Companion
As we emerge from the pandemic and darkness of the past year and a half we feel it is time to now try to bring light and joy back into the lives of everyone but especially those who were and were already faced with challenges such as Parkinson’s and Autism.
The 1st Annual Joyce Country Truck Run on Saturday evening the 11th of December 2021 at 5pm from Peacocks Hotel, Maam Cross, Co. Galway and will travel to Maam down through Maam Valley then over to Cornamona and on to Clonbur via ECC TEO Timber Mill.

The Two Charities who are to benefit of the fundraiser are:
Galway Parkinson’s Association: Parkinson’s is one of that can affect all ages and is becoming a very common diagnosis. Treatment for this illness is by way of medication, Physiotherapy and Speech & Language classes. Galway Parkinson’s Association are a support group made up of volunteers who have had a family member with Parkinsons. The group support and help people with Parkinson’s and their families. Since Covid 19, Galway Parkinson’s has been providing Physiotherapy and Speech classes to over 100 members per week via Zoom. These classes have proved to be of huge benefit to the members taking part and the Neurology Team with GUH have seen a difference in those who have taken part. This services provided allows for patients to exchange tips on how to manage problems that they encounter in their everyday lives and how to best manage and succeed.

My Canine Companion: Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurological disorder, it makes everyday events that a lot of us take for granted extremely difficult for autistic children as sensory overload can leave them unable to enjoy the things that all children should be able to experience. My Canine Companion is an assistance dog training charity, they are based in Cork and strive tirelessly to train assistance dogs to help and support autistic children. The dogs are highly trained to support the children in the home but also to be attached via an attachment belt to act as a safety and physical support when out in public so that children are safe and can enjoy their lives outside of their comfort zones. Training dogs to such a high calibre takes time and money all on a voluntary basis.
