I'm taking part in Irish Life Dublin Marathon.
I've chosen to fundraise for Aoife O' Sullivan Oncology Education Fund . All funds raised here will go directly to this great cause.
This fund was created to advance the education of nurses in the Oncology Department at Cork University Hospital.
Aoife, my sister, passed away from cancer in 2018. Her life's ambition was to become a teacher, and love of education was at the core of her values. This shone through and was particularly evident in the relationship she built up with her students and colleagues during her 2 years teaching.
After her cancer diagnosis, she received treatment both as an inpatient in GB Ward and in the Dunmanway Day Unit in CUH. The professional attention Aoife received from the entire Oncology Department was extraordinary and our family quickly realised that the nursing staff are a vital link in the treatment of cancer patients. Their tireless work gave them the confidence and comfort that Aoife was receiving the best care.
Throughout Aoife’s illness, we became aware that treatments for cancer are constantly being improved and recognised the importance of ongoing education and upskilling in this area of medicine.
