Raising funds for Cancer Fund for Children (Ireland)

Thank you for taking the time to visit my memorial page for Myles Higginbotham I've chosen to fundraise for Cancer Fund for Children (Ireland). All funds raised here will go directly to this great cause.

This year’s Trends Golf Society Annual Fundraiser takes place in Galway Golf Club on Friday, 14 October which always promises to be a great day out. I've been involved with the Trends Golf Society for nearly 20 years' now. Over the years, we have raised quite a considerable amount of money for very worthy charities. In 2018, we raised almost €50k for Ronald McDonald House when we were lucky enough to still have Myles with us.

This year's event is a very special one to me as its a tribute and in memory of my little boy Myles ("Little Fighter") who graciously and heroically faught a war of 22 months against a very aggressive blood cancer. During his short lived but beautiful life, Myles won many battles against the enemny but finally surrenderd to it on 2 December 2019 and left this wonderful world and life for Lisa and I will never be the same again!

Since Myles passed, I've wanted to do something in is honour. Thanks to Stevie Cullinane and Trends Golf Society that will finally take place in Galway Golf Club next month. I'm hoping this is the first of many things to come in keeping Myles's memory alive.

Myles loved golf. Galway Golf Club was the first place he would look to go when we were lucky enough to get home from Crumlin Hospital so I'm delighted that the first event in his memory is taking place at my home club. In 2020 Galway Golf Club were kind enough to place a beautiful bench in Myles's memory beside the practice putting green where Myles loved to practice his putting with me.

In November 2019, Myles, Lisa and I were due to spend a weekend in Daisy Lodge but unfortunately we received the heartbreaking news that after a successful bone marrow transplant, Myles had relapsed and so our focus was to make as many memories with him at home in Galway with our families and friends and that is what we did.

It is all to easy to underestimate the significance of Myles's short life, our Little Fighter, who lived a mere 4 years 4 months and 2 days on this earth. Myles was a gift of inestimable value to our family, friends, neighbours and community.

This year’s annual fundraiser will be in aid of Daisy Lodge (Cancer Fund for Children).

Cancer Fund for Children, is a registered charity (NI & ROI) operating on an island wide basis and its vision is to ensure that no child in Ireland faces cancer alone.

Thank you, Myles Dad (Brian)
