This is my story

I have signed up for the New York marathon in November this year and want to raise funds for Oesophageal cancer and also for inclusive athletics in Tulla.

I have lost almost 6 stone 82pounds in the last year and wanted to do something in my dads memory. I have never run before so this is a massive undertaking and challenge for me.

My dad passed away in November 2020 and suffered from Oesophageal cancer which was diagnosed in 2013.   He got great support from the Oesophageal Cancer Society and I want to try and raise funds to give something back. He had his oesophagus removed which left him without a stomach which meant he had great difficulty eating enough to keep him nourished. He dropped to 6stone 10lbs weight at one stage. He had to eat small amounts very often and indeed ate every night around 3 am to try and keep himself sustained.  We used to laugh because he was attending a dietician to gain weight and I was at the same time attending a dietician to lose weight.

The second iniative that I want to help is Tulla Inclusive Ahletics. Tulla Inclusive Athletics caters for kids in the local area that need assistance and my nephew Jack who is autistic goes there regularly and loves participating. They help kids of all abilities and it is wonderful to see them out having fun. They are part of Tulla Athletics Club and hope to move their activities to the new athletics track that is being developed there. The funds raised will be used to get them equipment for their activities.

To gain entry to the New York marathon I had to raise funds for local New York charities to the value of €2500.. I have paid this myself to guarantee entry so ALL funds raised here will be split evenly between Oesophageal cancer society and Tulla Inclusive Athletics..
