Hi all, we are Fiona and Aidan and we have a 6 year old daughter, Hannah. In August 2020, we noticed that she was having some issues with her eyesight. What we thought would be solved by a visit to the optician and maybe glasses turned into 15 months of extensive testing and appointments with doctors. Eventually, we were told that she has permanent vision loss due to a extremely rare metabolic disorder which affects her optic nerves in both eyes. It was a terrifying experience, as all we could imagine were the barriers that she would face in her life and all the things that she would not be able to do.
At the same time as her diagnosis, we were put in touch with Féach, who work with kids with low or no vision and their families. We have learned so much from them, from how to best help Hannah when she started school to the technology available to help her to access and navigate the world around her. We have also had the opportunity to meet other families and hear from people who face the same challenges as us at their Family Information Day.
I have chosen to do the Women's Mini Marathon on June 4th to show my appreciation for all the work that Féach have done and continue to do for families like ours. I hope you can help me by donating whatever you can. Simply click the Donate button above. All donations are processed securely. You can also share my page using Share options below.
