On 30th October I will be running the Dublin City Marathon in memory of my friend Thomas Bubendorfer who was tragically struck and killed by a car while out for a morning run in Madrid on 6th September. Thomas, a seasoned endurance runner, was known to many in the running community in Ireland and further afield through his blog "Diary of a Rubbish Marathon Runner", which charts his progress from a 4:36 marathoner to the 24 hr world championships - "and back again", he would probably say in his self-deprecating way. Thomas, who was an inspiration to many in the running community, was training for the Dublin City Marathon. Over the years both Thomas and I paced many marathons, including Dublin and therefore I think it is a fitting place to remember him (his happy place) and finish the journey he started.
To get something positive from the experience I've chosen to fundraise for LauraLynn Ireland's Children's Hospice, which was one of Thomas's favourite charities. All funds raised here will go directly to this great cause.
