I'm taking part in Kerry Challenge 2023 - DEBRA Ireland.
Hi all,
It's been a tough couple of years for everyone and none more so for those with medical conditions requiring extra help.
I am participating in the three day event Kerry Challenge 2023 for my 14th time starting on Friday 19th May to Sunday 21st May.
For those who don't know what EB is: (more info here: https://debraireland.org/about/what-is-eb/ )
• Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a distressing and painful genetic skin condition that causes the skin layers and internal body linings to separate.
• It causes a breakdown in the natural proteins that hold the skin together. The slightest touch can cause severe pain, blistering and sores.
• The skin blisters have to be lanced and dressed every day and this can take up to three hours.
• EB has been described by a Consultant Dermatologist in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital as “easily the most debilitating and devastating disease I have ever seen.”
• EB is currently incurable.
Claudia Scanlon is fast becoming the face of EB in Ireland. Both she and her mum Liz Collins appeared on the Late Late Show recently
Claudia told Ryan Tubridy: "It affects me externally and internally and every aspect of my life. It's one of the worst conditions, I know I'm biased, that I think is out there. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
"It's a living hell and that's the only way I can describe it." Claudia previously appeared on the Late Late Show and said she has gone through a difficult time since then.
"I can't say it's been an easy few years since I was last on here. No one can go through this and not be affected by it,"
You can see what she has to say here: Late Late Show Appearance (WARNING: it will break your heart...)
We're helping to raise funds for Debra Ireland by completing the Kerry Challenge on May 19th to May 21st. This will be my 14th Challenge.
ALL of the fundraising money goes to the Charity, I pay for all of my Challenge expenses myself. Not only that but every €1 you donate is matched by the event sponsor!
Donating through iDonate is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe- they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
