This fundraising effort is our way of giving back to The Donegal Hospice.

The Hospice started in 1986 with 1 homecare nurse our homecare continues today with 7 homecare nurses who provide care in the patients homes and provide equipment beds, mattresses, specialised chairs and the most important piece off equipment the syringe driver. we opened an inpatient unit in march 2003 where we bring patients in for respite and end of life care. Our services cover palliative care, motor neurone, MS, and COPD all monies raised is used to care for the terminally ill off county Donegal we are very grateful for all the support Edel and her family and friends give it is so much appreciated by all in the Donegal Hospice. We also look after the children with life limiting conditions in the community.

A final note....

Helen Mc Laughlin (née Mc Daid) was originally from Glassalts in Carndonagh, Co. Donegal. She trained as a nurse in Burnley in the early 1970’s and moved back home to Donegal. She met her husband Dominic and they settled in Burnfoot. They have four children - Orla, Ann, Edel and Niall.

Helen worked in Altnagelvin hospital in Derry for 36 years. She was well-known and respected as a kind and caring midwife

After suffering from dementia since 2015, Helen was admitted to The Donegal Hospice in April 2022.

We, the family of Helen, were overwhelmed by the exceptional care and compassion shown to mum, and to ourselves by staff. She spent two and a half weeks there before she passed away peacefully on April 23rd 2022
