Our Immersion Trip
Last month 34 TY students from Blackrock College travelled with Aidlink to Kenya visiting several of the communities that the charity assists. This was a humbling and amazing experience for us all as they joyously welcomed us into their daily lives with open arms. Stricken by drought we saw first-hand how Aidlink strives to support some of these communities during times of difficulty by providing running water and food as well as planting trees for the future. Through providing food in schools, the students are enticed to stay longer in formal education.
Aidlink is currently providing food to 55 schools, assisting approximately 20,000 students from some of the most destitute communities that are feeling the hardship of the current climate. In Kajiado, where our Transition Year group visited two communities, over 9,000 students are supported by funds from Aidlink. With no rain expected for the foreseeable future, the drought will sadly continue, and resources will become more limited. The proceeds from the Rock Run will extend the timeframe in which support the students in formal education by providing food, running water and sanitation facilities. Please support a great cause.
